If you hear some songs while on the move or heard some ad jingles and feel listening to it again, http://www.midomi.com/ is a best place for you especially if you don't know who the artist or the album is. Yes, you can serach the song by singing a rendition.

Other visitors can also listen to your rendition if you have a good match. I did try "Hotel California" and results does list the song along with other 15 similar ones...seems like my singing abilities are not bad :)

Finally the new design is ON for me

Posted by deepkt On 2:53 PM 0 comments

My orkut page just got better.....with new design. Got updated today....
With 1000Gb = 250DVD = 20 Blu-Ray, are these tera-discs going to make HD and Blu-Ray obselete?

Thats what says Tech UK article at: http://www.tech.co.uk/home-entertainment/hi-fi-and-audio/other-playback-and-recording-formats/news/how-to-fit-1tb-of-data-on-one-cd-sized-disc?articleid=1665250963&source=rss

Here are some of the excerpts from the article:

"Blu-ray and HD DVD have pushed the limits of optical storage further than anyone thought possible. But a new technology has emerged which makes Blu-ray's 50GB capacity look tiny. Mempile in Israel says it's able to fit an incredible 1TB of data onto one "TeraDisc" which is the same size as CDs and DVDs. That's 20 times the capacity of a maxed-out dual-layer Blu-ray disc"

Highest capacity discs ever
"The TeraDisc is made of a material which is highly responsive to two-photon writing and reading. This allows us to write anywhere in that we can focus a red laser onto the disc, e.g. multiple layers," Dr. Erez told TFOT.info."

On a 1TB disc, you could store:
212 DVD-quality movies
250,000 MP3 files
1,000,000 large Word documents

Microsoft recently announced "Silverlight" which it says "is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of Microsoft .NET–based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web."

1.37MB installer installed seamlesly in my Vista and woks fine in my Firefox too.

My experience with "Expression Studio" was not really a good one(with a lot of bugs in it) I think silverlight lacks a punch which Flash delivers in terms of graphics and interactivity.

The only one feature I liked in "Silverlight" was 3D transformation of bitmap images, but tools like "Papervision 3D" for Flash will definitely fill this vacuum.

They also have a new site http://www.tafiti.com/ similar to Live.com or msn search which uses "Silverlight" to interactively deliver search results. Doesn't seem to be quick and as compelling as Flash.

Here is the small Flash Application I have developed for ICC World Cup 2007. This has Match Schedules, Calendar, Leader Boards, Venue Info with Matches for that venue, team based match info and a Live Feed of current matches.
This features an auto update facility where in it gets latest match results and leader boards from my site and saves to your computer.

Here you can find the installer for your Windows PC.
WorldCup2007_Setup.zip(2.20 MB)

Following is the online version of the same (live feed will not work in this mode due to sandbox restrictions), but I would suggest you to download and install it from the above link.
This is a freeware and does not contain any ad wares.

Flash now turns 10. On this occasion FWA in association with Adobe is conducting a community poll in order to establish which is the most influential flash website for last 10 years. I was really unhappy seeing http://www.eye4u.com/ being lost out in year 1998 category.

Adobe is also running 'Flashback. Flash Future' campaign on this ocassion.

Current web design trends

Posted by deepkt On 11:40 AM 0 comments
I came across this site which talks about today's trends in Web Designing. Eventhough I dont do any web-designing these days I do keep track of these trends. It always amuses me how these evolution taking place in the web-designing front. I think AJAX is adding a lot of values to these designs(like those show/hide transitions in iconbuffet.com ). But can anyone beat Google's web page design technique? I think its more of usability than design which attracts user to websites and ofcourse AJAX can make it work even better. Here is the link to the site which talks about all these new trends - http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/current-style.cfm

Long time no see :)

Its been a long time since I had updated my blog. Main reason is being my job change. After leaving Adobe(formerly Macromedia) I didnt get much time writing a blog entry and now I felt OK let update it. Nowadays -
1. I develop games (yes, using Flash 8 the software for which I worked as a QA Enginner, feels great and no much bugs though)
2. I have started developing some AS2 API's for Flickr Services. I know there are already some API's avialable but this is mine :)
3. I bought one PC. Infact I bought it in bits and pieces and assembled it (yes, myself). Its really a powerful one. P4 Dual Core, IGB of RAM, NVidia GEFORCE GT7300 GPU, 200GB HD, DVD Writer and ofcourse a LCD monitor.
4. I play games(I mean PC games). Currently active with NFS MostWanted and those cops give me goose bumps.

This weekend Im leaving to London for a business visit. Will upload the photos of my trip as I get them.
